Sixteen years have passed since Michael Schallert and Afton Ferris were convicted of a brutal double murder, sealing their fates with life sentences in the Illinois Department of Corrections. However, the story doesn’t end there, as the two former lovers are now breaking their silence, casting blame on one another in a gripping preview of Snapped: Behind Bars. This anticipated season three premiere is set to air on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 6/5c p.m. on Oxygen.

The separate interviews, recorded in March 2025, delve into the chilling crime that took two lives and irreversibly altered the lives of Schallert and Ferris. The victims, Kandis Majors, 28, and Terri Seibeck, 32, resided together in West Frankfort, Illinois. In a gesture of generosity, they allowed Schallert and Ferris to stay with them when the couple found themselves in need of a home.

However, this arrangement quickly turned sour. Majors and Seibeck began to suspect their guests of theft, leading to a confrontation that resulted in the couple being evicted. This fateful decision set off a chain of events that would culminate in tragedy.

Who did Afton Ferris and Michael Schallert kill?

Kandis Majors, 28, and Terri Seibeck, 32, were roommates in West Frankfort, Illinois. When Ferris and Schallert needed a place to stay, they let them into their home.

The arrangement soon soured when the hosts suspected their guests were stealing from them and, as a result, kicked them out.

On Oct. 19, 2009, they were found shot multiple times in their home after failing to report for work and not responding to calls. One of their cars was missing, along with cash and credit cards.

Ferris and Schallert, who fled to Colorado, leapt onto investigators’ radar. They were taken into custody on Oct. 21 and charged with the murders.

In his interview with police, Schallert admitted to murdering Seibeck and Majors with Ferris’ help, as previously reported by Oxygen.

Schallert pleaded guilty to two counts of murder. Ferris was convicted of first-degree murder. They both received life sentences without the chance of parole.

What Michael Schallert and Afton Ferris say now

In exclusive interviews with Snapped: Behind Bars taped in March 2025, the former couple share new and conflicting versions of the deadly events.

“When we were on the run, Afton tells me, ‘If you take the blame for one and I take the blame for one, we’ll only get 25 years,’” Schallert says. “‘We’ll get out and we’ll be together.’”

But Ferris implies that she was manipulated. “I was his little toy at the end of our relationship,” she says in a sneak peek at the new episode. “Anything he said, I would do.”

Both point the finger at the other and question each other’s accounts.

“I hate the fact that she’s twisting it,” Michael says while Ferris asserts, “I believe that he won’t ever tell the truth.”

What truths are hidden? Find out more about the case and what the couple shares when Snapped: Behind Bars returns for season three on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 6/5 p.m. on Oxygen.
