An 18-year-old Wisconsin man was drunk and driving at least between 130 and 145 mph on just after midnight on Sunday when he slammed into another car in Appleton, killing the driver of the second car.

A criminal complaint says that an officer smelled the “odor of intoxicants” on Carter Green when he responded to the crash site and that he failed field sobriety tests, WGBA reported. His preliminary breath test result was .178 — more than double the legal limit for adults over 21 in Wisconsin. Those under 21 are not allowed to drink and drive under any circumstances.

Green slammed into a vehicle driven by 27-year-old Casey Sjober gat the intersection of North Richmond Street and the Inter 41 off ramp.

According to Law&Crime, Green ran a red light and collided with Sjoberg’s vehicle. When police asked if he’d been drinking, Green replied, “Absolutely not,” the criminal complaint said.

But the field sobriety tests, preliminary breath results, and Green’s passenger said otherwise. The passenger, who was not identified, told police they had been at a bonfire at a friend’s house drinking and continued to drink after they left there and went to a strip club.

The passenger told police that after the crash, Green kept saying, “I’m screwed, I’m screwed, I’m screwed” and that he’d seen the speedometer hit 130 mph. The complaint said that Green had a new turbo installed in his car the day before the crash.

Green, police wrote in their report, “seemed to have no remorse or concern for the other people involved in the crash.”

A passenger in Sjoberg’s vehicle was taken to the hospital; Sjoberg was pronounced dead on the scene.

Green appeared in court Friday, charged with reckless homicide and operating a vehicle while under the influence. He was given a $100,000 bond. His next court date is December 1.
