A 23-year-old man is charged with murder after he opened fire at a New Hampshire country club where he once worked, killing one and wounding two.

Hunter Nadeau has been charged with the death of 59-year-old Robert Steven DeCesare, WCVB reported. A restaurant employee and another patron were also shot. Four other patrons were hurt in the scramble.

The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office  said that Nadeau walked into the club and opened fire with a handgun. He was arrested in a nearby neighborhood.

New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella noted that some witnesses said the shooter shouted phrases like “the kids are OK” and “Free Palestine,” but investigators don’t believe Nadeau was politically motivated.

“We don’t have any evidence at this time that Mr. Nadeau was motivated by hate-based motivation,” Formella said. “In fact, I would say that the evidence leads us to believe this was more likely Mr. Nadeau was simply trying to make a number of statements to create chaos in the moment.”

The shooting took place at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday at a restaurant at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua during a wedding reception, WBTS reported.

Formella said there is no indication that Nadeau and DeCesare were acquainted.

Nadeau has been charged with one count of second-degree murder, but more charges are expected. He is set to be arraigned on Monday.
