On Wednesday, Lindsay Clancy’s former nanny painted her as a “wonderful mom” as jurors listened to testimonies in Clancy’s ongoing murder trial.
In a Massachusetts courtroom, Elaine Rossi, who served as a nanny for Lindsay and her ex-husband Patrick Clancy last year, shared her insights. Her testimony was broadcast during the trial by the Associated Press, adding depth to the proceedings.
“I saw a wonderful mom who adored her kids,” Rossi relayed to the jury on August 5. “She was vigilant about their safety, always ensuring Callan was eating and sleeping well. Truly, she was a remarkable mother.”
Lindsay Clancy has entered a plea of not guilty concerning three first-degree murder charges related to the tragic deaths of her children: Cora, aged five, Dawson, three, and young Callan, just eight months old.
According to the AP, Rossi’s employment with Lindsay spanned from September to December in 2022. She disclosed in court that Lindsay had confided in her about struggling with postpartum depression and insomnia, noting the presence of prescription medication bottles in the house.
During Rossi’s testimony, prosecutors played a video she had previously sent Clancy showing baby Callan drinking from a bottle, according to People.
Clancy is accused of strangling her children in the basement of her family’s Duxbury, Massachusetts, home in January 2023 before jumping from a second-story window, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down.
Her ex-husband, Patrick Clancy, made the discovery after returning home. According to testimony, he found Lindsay Clancy in the backyard, where she told him she had attempted suicide before directing him inside to the bodies of their children.
Prosecutors allege the killings were deliberate and premeditated. Her defense team, however, argues Clancy was experiencing postpartum psychosis at the time of the deaths.
“This is a woman who was suffering from psychosis at the time that she went down to that basement,” defense attorney Kevin Reddington told jurors on July 27. “She had no motive. She loved her children. She intended to kill herself. She didn’t fake that.”
If Clancy is convicted of murder, she faces life in prison without the possibility of parole, per the AP. If she is found not guilty due to a lack of criminal responsibility, she would instead be committed to a state mental health facility.
