GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A custodian from Buchholz High School, identified as Hamod Hikeem McNutt, 28, was taken into custody yesterday for allegedly possessing two firearms on the University of Florida campus.

At approximately 9:11 p.m. on February 8, a University of Florida Police Department officer observed McNutt strolling through the campus. Upon spotting the officer, McNutt reportedly changed direction. This prompted the officer to call for backup to prevent any potential escape. The officer then approached McNutt, engaged him in conversation regarding his presence on campus, and asked for his identification, which McNutt provided.

The officer noted a noticeable bulge in McNutt’s hoodie pocket. When questioned, McNutt allegedly admitted it was a weapon, leading to his detention and subsequent arrest.

A search conducted following the arrest revealed a Smith & Wesson M&P 380 SHIELD and a Charter Arms Undercover .38 Special, along with loose ammunition in McNutt’s pocket.

After being read his Miranda rights, McNutt was asked if he had been carrying the guns the previous day, when another officer had seen him on campus. He reportedly confirmed that he had the firearms with him at that time as well.

McNutt has been charged with two counts of exhibiting firearms on a school campus. He has no criminal convictions, but a 2020 charge of leaving the scene of a crash was dropped. Alachua County Public Schools confirmed that he is employed as a custodian at Buchholz High School, but he will be placed on administrative leave. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $200,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
