Authorities in New York state have arrested the father of a 9-year-old girl who was found dead on Sunday after he reported her missing.
Luciano Frattolin, 45, is in jail in Essex County, WROC reported, but details on his arrest have not been released. New York State Police said after Melina Frattolin was found dead in Ticonderoga that they would hold a press conference on the matter later Monday morning.
State police issued an Amber Alert early Sunday, saying that Frattolin had called the Warren County Sheriff’s Office just before 10 p.m. on Saturday and reported his daughter missing. According to the alert, she was last seen in a white van headed south on Interstate 87.
Troopers said that as they began to investigate, they found “inconsistencies in the father’s account of events and the timeline he provided.” After the girl’s body was found in Ticonderoga, authorities said there was no indication that she was actually abducted.
The girl’s body was found by a state Department of Environmental Conservation officer during a grid search coordinated by state forest rangers, the Times Union reported. Officials have not said why they focused the search in that area.
Luciano Frattolin, a Canadian businessman, was booked into the Essex County jail early Monday morning and is scheduled for arraignment.
