GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Office of State Attorney Brian Kramer has announced the prison sentence for a Dade City man convicted of shooting a Buchholz High School student during a robbery near Oaks Mall in October 2024. The victim was left paralyzed in the attack.

An Alachua County jury found Galindo guilty of attempted murder and robbery in July 2026. In September, Judge Denise Ferrero sentenced him to two concurrent 50-year terms in state prison, followed by lifetime probation. The sentence includes a 25-year minimum mandatory term. Galindo was also ordered to pay $2,099,900 in restitution to the victim.
Assistant State Attorney Christopher Elsey led the prosecution.

Bryan Galindo Vega and Yasin Kamel Al’olabi were juveniles when the shooting occurred, but prosecutors charged both as adults. About a year ago, each pleaded nolo contendere to attempted murder and robbery. They were sentenced to 15 years in prison followed by 10 years of probation, agreed to cooperate with the prosecution and were ordered to pay $2,099,900 in restitution.
Galindo Vega told investigators that his brother, Galindo, overheard the two juveniles discussing the robbery while they played an online game and asked to participate. According to Galindo Vega, Galindo was living with him in Gainesville before the shooting and left the city afterward.
