A daycare worker in Texas faces allegations of biting a 3-year-old boy after the child reportedly bit another child at the facility.
Elisha Daniel, aged 54, was arrested last week on a charge of felony injury to a child. The incident, captured on surveillance footage at Little Angels of Maypearl daycare in Ellis County, shows Daniel allegedly biting the boy’s arm. Local police, discussing the case with Fox affiliate KDFW, confirmed the details of the incident.
“Her behavior was very aggressive and clearly angry,” stated Maypearl Police Captain David Smith.
Smith described the video, saying, “She grabs the child’s arm, pulls him towards her, and places his arm in her mouth. It’s evident from the boy’s expression of pain that something was seriously wrong.”
Child Protective Services was alerted to the alleged incident in October and conducted an investigation. Subsequently, authorities were notified, Smith confirmed.
Maypearl Police Chief John Shelton told KDFW that the surveillance footage was uncovered during the investigation and is what ultimately led to Daniel’s arrest. He urged other parents to come forward if their children experienced similar injuries or attacks.
“If anybody wants to come forth with any additional information or any other incidents, then yes, we will investigate it,” Shelton said. “But so far we just have the one current one that we’re investigating.”
A staff member at Little Angels confirmed to Law&Crime on Tuesday that Daniel is no longer employed by the day care.
“No, she is not,” the worker said.
The family of the boy Daniel is accused of biting told KDFW that their son has been emotionally affected by the incident and is confused by what happened. The family said they hope he gets justice in some way.
Daniel was released on a $10,000 bond and is awaiting her next court hearing.
