ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – At 3:30 a.m. this morning, Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a car burglary in progress in the Belmont neighborhood off CR 241.
When deputies arrived, they saw two suspects attempting to break into a car; both suspects reportedly ran when they saw the deputies. One suspect was reportedly detained after discarding a firearm during a foot chase; the second suspect ran to a previously-stolen vehicle that the two suspects had allegedly driven to the neighborhood.

After a short pursuit, the suspect vehicle made a U-turn back toward the deputy’s car and was hit by the patrol car. The suspect was later apprehended while walking down the road.
The suspects are reportedly brothers and are 16 and 17 years old. The 17-year-old was previously charged with seven felonies and two misdemeanors, including burglary, grand theft of a firearm, resisting an officer, criminal mischief, and fleeing. The 16-year-old is a suspect in multiple ongoing investigations.
