A South Carolina man has been arrested after deputies said they discovered “appalling” living conditions inside an Orangeburg home shared with a vulnerable adult and a 1-year-old child.
Justice Anderson, 25, faces charges of unlawfully placing a child at risk and neglect of a vulnerable adult, authorities said. Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Anderson’s residence on Manlicher Drive in Orangeburg after MUSC Health hospital staff in Orangeburg reported that a 1-year-old had suffered “serious injuries” on Sept. 4. When deputies arrived at the home where the child lived, they said they uncovered what they described as “a neglect and abuse situation.”
Deputies said they found a “vulnerable” 42-year-old woman inside the residence, lying “in a bed full of maggots and rotten food.”
Authorities did not immediately release information about the medical conditions of either the child or the woman.
