A Missouri woman who vanished last week was reportedly found dead on Monday, leading to the arrest of an acquaintance.

KPVI reported that authorities from St. Charles and Maryland Heights discovered Jacquelyn Mitchell’s body in an apartment. Maryland Heights police Chief Bill Carson said she had been dead for six days.

Mitchell, 39, vanished on March 14 after leaving work in Sunset Hills and going to Maggie O’Brien’s, a restaurant that is located nearby. Her family told KSDK that she lived with her mother in St. Charles and sometimes resided with her father in Bridgeton.

The same day Mitchell’s body was discovered, a 49-year-old male acquaintance was arrested. Police said the man lived in the apartment where Mitchell was found deceased.

Mitchell was reported missing on March 16, as CrimeOnline previously reported. An owner of a jewelry store gave Mitchell’s sister surveillance footage which apparently showed Mitchell in a shopping plaza before she left alone in her car. Mitchell’s sister gave the video to the police, according to KPVI.

Mitchell’s sister said her cell phone last pinged near Highway 364 and Bennington, which allowed investigators to zero in on a six-mile radius in Maryland Heights.

Additionally, Carson claimed that Mitchell left the restaurant and went to the acquaintance’s apartment. He alleged that they reviewed surveillance footage which showed the man driving Mitchell’s car — leading police to obtain a search warrant which led to Monday’s discovery.

On Sunday, Mitchell’s family members reportedly found her car abandoned at the Whisper Hollow Apartments in Maryland Heights.

Authorities have not yet identified the suspect in custody. He is expected to be charged with second-degree murder, tampering with physical evidence, and abandonment of a corpse.
