The widow of a Los Angeles doctor gunned down outside his family medicine practice last year is suing his ex-wife and four others, who are accused of orchestrating a brazen alleged murder-for-hire plot.
Dr. Hamid Mirshojae was killed on August 23, 2024 as he was leaving his Woodland Hills medical clinic in what the Los Angeles Police Department has described as an “ambush style attack.”
His ex-wife Ahang Mirshojae and four others — including the alleged shooter, Evan Hardman — were taken into custody last year and are currently awaiting trial after pleading not guilty to the charges against them, according to KTLA.
The case took a new twist earlier this week when the late doctor’s widow Ghazal Simorgh filed a lawsuit against Ahang and the others, alleging intentional infliction of emotional distress, wrongful death, survival claims and fraudulent asset transfers, according to KTLA.
“This has been a nightmare for Dr. Mirshojae’s widow, Ghazal Simorgh, and their young daughter,” lead attorney Alex Guerrero said in a statement to KTLA. “To lose a husband and father to such a cold-blooded, calculated act of violence is devastating. Our lawsuit seeks justice for this family and holds accountable those responsible for this horrific crime, not just criminally, but civilly as well.”
What does the lawsuit against Ahang Mirshojae Allege?
Simorgh’s attorneys have accused Ahang of hiding financial assets and real estate in an effort to keep them for herself and the three children she shared with Hamid.
“We are seeking to possibly unwind some financial transactions that the ex-wife engaged in in connection with the murder-for-hire plot,” Guerro said, according to KABC. “We do believe that there’s been assets that have been hidden and or moved to avoid any kind of civil forfeiture.”
“I miss my husband every day”
Simorgh — who was in Turkey visiting family at the time of Ahang’s murder, along with the couple’s baby — said at a press conference on Monday that she’s still grieving the loss of her husband.
“I miss my husband every day, and it’s not fair that my 1-year-old baby lost her dad at a very young age,” Simorgh said, according to KTLA. “I live with fear every day after my husband’s murder, but I try to be strong for my children. I just want justice.”
What happened to Dr. Hamid Mirshojae?
Hamid was walking out of his family medicine practice on Topanga Canyon Blvd. at around 5:34 p.m. on August 24, 2025 when he was attacked in the parking lot, according to the LAPD.
“As he approached the driver side of the vehicle, a masked man emerged from hiding around the corner of the clinic and ran toward him,” police said in a December, 2024 statement. “From a close distance, the suspect fired at Doctor Mirshojae in an ambush-style attack and then immediately fled back toward the rear of the clinic away from the scene.”
Hamid was later pronounced dead at the scene after suffering a fatal gunshot wound.
Who’s been charged in connection with Dr. Hamid Mirshojae’s death?
Police announced in December that five suspects had been taken into custody in connection with the murder-for-hire plot: Hardman, 41; Ahang, 53; Shawn Randolph, 46; Sarallah Jawed, 26; and Ashley Rose Sweeting, 40.
Sweeting, who is facing accessory to murder charges, is accused of having driven the getaway car for Hardman, while Jawed allegedly helped facilitate the murder and later drove Hardman out of California, according to KTLA. Authorities have alleged that Randolph provided the ghost gun used in the killing.
Ahang and Randolph have been charged with murder in the killing, while Hardman and Jawed are facing charges of murder with special circumstances, police said.
