The Clovis Police Department has identified 62-year-old Steve Myer as the driver involved in the incident. It occurred on Saturday in the parking lot of a Trader Joe’s located in Clovis, California, part of the state’s Central Valley. Authorities reported to the scene at 2:23 p.m. after receiving information about a toddler being struck by a vehicle.
According to local ABC affiliate KFSN, the child involved was 5 years old, and both the child and the mother were hit while walking through the Trader Joe’s parking lot, allegedly by Myer’s vehicle.
Police stated that upon arrival, the child was “awake and alert,” and was found to be in “stable condition with moderate injuries.” The mother received treatment from emergency medical personnel at the scene. Both were subsequently taken to a hospital and are expected to recover.

KFSN reported that Myer remained at the scene and spoke to police, who conducted a field sobriety test. Myer was suspected by police of being intoxicated while he was driving, and he was taken into custody without incident.
Myer was charged with felony DUI and booked into the Fresno County Jail. His name was not found on the inmate roster as of Monday. His next court date was not made publicly available.
