This week, a former beauty queen from Georgia finds herself in the courtroom, facing serious charges related to the tragic death of her boyfriend’s young son. The incident took place nearly two years ago in her dorm room at Georgia Southwestern State University.

The defendant, Trinity Poague, stands accused of malice murder, two counts of felony murder, aggravated battery, and cruelty to children, all connected to the death of the 18-month-old boy, known as J.D. Williams or Romeo Angeles. This case has garnered significant attention and was reported on by CrimeOnline.

In a past life, Poague held the title of Miss Donalsonville, a title she was stripped of following her arrest for the child’s death, as noted by WALB. Despite the serious accusations, Poague has entered a plea of not guilty.

The boy’s father, Julian Williams, provided chilling testimony, as reported by Law&Crime. On January 14, 2024, Williams recounted how he left the child in good health while he went to Walmart to pick up a pizza. On his way back, he received a distressing text from Poague, alerting him that the child was not breathing.

In a frantic rush, Williams returned and took his son to the hospital. Medical professionals there intended to transfer the boy to Atlanta for further treatment, but tragically, the child passed away before they could stabilize him for the journey. This heartbreaking sequence of events underscores the high stakes of the ongoing trial.

Prosecutor Lewis Lamb told the court that the boy suffered catastrophic injuries, including bruises, a fractured skull, and a lacerated liver. The prosecutors also told jurors that Poague disliked the boy, who was a key source of friction between her and her boyfriend.

She alleged texted her roommate that day that she “can’t stand being around J.D. anymore. He hates me and I hate him.”

Poague’s attorney, W.T. Gamble, however, argued that police and prosecutors jumped to conclusions about her guilt. The boy’s injuries were likely caused, he said, shen he fell off a bed the night — when the father was allegedly passed out drunk.

Poague’s trial is expected to last two days.
