In a startling twist during an ongoing investigation, video footage reveals McKee entering the grounds surrounding the Tepe residence while Monique and Spencer are away attending the Big 10 Championship game on December 6. This area, known legally as the “curtilage,” is regarded as an extension of the home itself, carrying significant weight under the Fourth Amendment.
As the championship game unfolds, Monique unexpectedly leaves during the second half to head back to their hotel room. Her departure coincides with McKee’s presence at the Tepe home. When questioned about Monique’s sudden exit, Spencer confides in friends that she was distressed over matters involving her ex-husband.
Further complicating the timeline, McKee’s phone remains inactive at St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford, showing no signs of use for a span of approximately 17 hours from December 29 until the afternoon of December 30.
Adding to the tension, those close to Monique recount a history of abuse and threats from her ex-husband McKee, both during their marriage and after their separation, painting a grim picture of their past relationship.
Friends and family tell investigators how Monique’s ex-husband McKee had been abusive and made numerous threats on her life during and after their marriage.
Friends and family also tell investigators that McKee would force Monique into unwanted sex and strangulation. McKee tells Monique he can kill her any time he wants; he will buy the house right next door to her, and she is always going to be his wife.
