A Texas daycare employee has been handed a 10-year prison sentence following the discovery of video evidence showing her repeatedly kicking and pushing children under her care.
Catherine Guziejka, aged 45, admitted guilt last month to six charges of causing harm to a child, according to CrimeOnline. The court imposed a decade-long sentence for each charge, which will run concurrently, as reported by KLTV.
The disturbing incidents came to light a year ago when a fellow employee at Punkin’ Doodles Day Care in Lindale reviewed surveillance footage. The video revealed Guziejka kicking a toddler, just two years old, in the lower back. The concerned employee alerted the child’s father, who subsequently notified law enforcement.
Upon reviewing the video, a deputy noted numerous similar cases where Guziejka delivered forceful kicks, causing the young children to cry out in distress. The victims, all under the age of two, suffered these abuses between July and October 2024, leading to Guziejka’s eventual arrest.
According to an affidavit, Guziejka frequently targeted children as they watched television, kicking them in the back. Other footage showed her aggressively repositioning children during naps or yanking them by the arm to move them to a changing table.
KLTV said Guziejka was fired the day the daycare staff learned what was going on, and the Texas Department of Family and Protective services barred her from working at any hospital, daycare, nursing home, or facility that cares for vulnerable people.
