A former police captain from Texas is now facing federal charges related to child sexual assault and pornography.

According to Fox 26, 59-year-old Daryn Blake Edwards, a retired Houston police captain who served for 32 years, was indicted on these charges by a federal grand jury on Tuesday. He made a court appearance on Friday to face the new federal accusations.

Earlier this year, as CrimeOnline reported, Edwards was arrested at his residence in Galveston County on allegations of possessing child pornography. Following this, League City Police added further charges, including aggravated sexual assault and sexual performance of a child, according to KTRK.

Court documents made available by KPRC disclosed that the victim informed investigators of years of abuse by Edwards, which allegedly began when she was in elementary school. Over the past year, the frequency of the assaults reportedly increased, with the victim claiming Edwards raped her between 85 and 100 times.

The victim also revealed that Edwards sent her explicit images through social media and solicited similar photographs from her, sometimes offering money in exchange. She complied with his requests, fearing his anger if she refused.

Edwards then allegedly saved the images from the Snapchat app, which would notify her when he did. He reportedly told her he had a secret photo album and threatened to “ruin her life” with the photos in it. He also allegedly used hidden cameras to capture images of the victim.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas, Edwards is facing two counts of coercion and enticement of a minor. If convicted, he could receive up to life in prison.

In addition, he is facing two counts of sexual exploitation of children and one count of possession of child pornography. Those charges carry terms of 20 and 10 years, respectively.

Edwards could also be fined $250,000.
