A man from Wisconsin has confessed to violently throwing his 8-month-old son against a wall, frustrated over losing a video basketball game.
Jalin A. White, 22, entered a guilty plea to charges of child abuse causing significant bodily harm and neglect resulting in similar harm, according to a report by Law&Crime.
White’s sentence includes 12 years of imprisonment followed by seven years of probation. Additionally, he is required to undergo specific classes and treatment programs after his release and is prohibited from using physical punishment on children.
The incident, previously covered by CrimeOnline, occurred while White was losing a game of NBA 2K. Initially, he offered various conflicting accounts of his son’s injuries, including an accusation that the child’s mother accidentally hit the baby’s head on a door frame.
White also claimed that the baby had fallen during a diaper change and that he had dropped the child while gaming. However, investigators eventually uncovered the actual events leading to the child’s injuries.
“The Defendant was down two points in the fourth quarter of the game and became frustrated while holding JW, ultimately throwing JW against the wall,” a criminal complaint detailed.
The baby boy suffered six rib fractures, a skull fracture, and a severe brain injury and was not initially expected to survive. He did recuperate, prosecutors told Law&Crime in an email.
Even after admitting he’d thrown the baby against the wall, White continually refused to say specifically that he did anything, instead saying things like “he hit his head hard against the wall”
