A father found guilty of fatally harming his infant son, 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro, received a prison sentence exceeding 30 years to life on Monday. Last month, he confessed to the crime.
Jake Haro, aged 32, admitted to charges including murder, assault on a child under eight resulting in death, and filing a false police report, as confirmed by the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. Judge Gary Polk imposed a sentence of 25 years to life for the murder, 180 days for the false report, six years for the assault, plus an additional eight months for possessing a firearm as a felon.
These sentences will run consecutively, and Haro was credited with 551 days already served. Additionally, he must pay $10,000 in restitution.
“The deceit in this case only heightened the tragedy of Emmanuel’s demise,” stated Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin. “While today’s sentencing holds Jake Haro accountable, our office remains committed to pursuing justice as proceedings against his co-defendant continue.”
Haro’s wife, 41-year-old Rebecca Haro, continues to plead not guilty, with a court hearing set for January 21, 2026.
The Haros were arrested on August 22, a week after Rebecca Haro claimed she had been attacked in a parking lot in Yucaipa and the baby taken, as CrimeOnline reported. Police quickly found inconsistencies in the story.
Despite extensive searches — at times aided by Jake Haro — the boy’s body has not been found.
Haro abruptly changed his plea from not guilty on October 16.
