Press release from Gainesville Police Department
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – At approximately 7:19 a.m. today, an employee from Circle K at 3901 SW Archer Rd called dispatch to report an adult male who was trying car door handles and behaving abnormally, punching the air. Gainesville Police Department Officers responded and warned the adult male for trespassing on behalf of Circle K.
At approximately 12:25 p.m., another employee from the same Circle K (3901 SW Archer Rd) called dispatch to report an adult male who was causing a disturbance. The caller said the male was the same subject who was warned for trespassing earlier. The complainant reported that the male was attempting to gain entry into vehicles and trying to get physical with staff. At 12:42 p.m., GPD Officers made contact with the male and placed him under arrest for Trespassing without incident.

At approximately 1:16 p.m., the adult male was taken to the jail and then subsequently transported to HCA Florida Millhopper Emergency (4388 NW 53rd Ave) for medical evaluation at approximately 1:26 p.m. After approximately one hour at the emergency facility, the adult male suffered a medical event and died.
The circumstances surrounding the event are still under investigation. At this time, the identity of the prisoner will not be released as the next of kin has not been notified.
As per policy and procedures, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an investigation. The case is being monitored by the Gainesville Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division.
