Florida Highway Patrol Launches Investigation into Fatal Hit-and-Run on SW Archer Road

A tragic accident unfolded in the early hours today in Gainesville, Florida, claiming the life of a 34-year-old local resident. The man was fatally struck by multiple vehicles while standing in the roadway on SW Archer Road.

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported that the incident occurred around 4:41 a.m. on May 24, near the intersection of SW 81st Street. For reasons yet to be determined, the man was in the street when he was first hit by two unidentified vehicles. A third vehicle, driven by a 34-year-old woman from Chiefland, subsequently struck him and remained on the scene to alert authorities.

Officials noted that the absence of street lighting in the area may have contributed to the tragic event. As a result, the investigation is being treated as a criminal matter due to the involvement of the two drivers who fled after the collision.
