A Massachusetts grand jury on Thursday indicted a Massachusetts doctor on two counts of rape, more than a year after he was fired by his hospital following an investigation into anonymous complaints of sexual abuse of patients.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Framingham Police Chief Lester Baker announced the indictment against Derrick Todd, Boston 25 reported.

Todd has also been sued by 200 women and several men in a consolidated lawsuit filed last year in Suffolk Superior Court. The lawsuit includes dozens of other defendants, including some of the facilities where he worked. The suit alleges Todd had been abusing patients as far back as 2010 and accuses him of regularly performing unnecessary exams, including pelvic floor therapy, breast exams, testicular exams, and rectal examinations.

Todd practiced at several locations, including Framingham Hospital — where the Middlesex rapes allegedly occurred — Charles River Medical Associates, and Brigham and Woman’s Rheumatology Center at Faulkner Hospital.

Brigham and Women’s launched an investigation after receiving two anonymous complaints about him in April 2023. At that point, the hospital told him he could not conduct sensitive exams without a chaperone, and in June he was placed on administrative leave, then fired a month later.

In September, Todd reached agreement with the Board of Registration in Medicine not to practice anywhere in the country, but no criminal charges were filed until this week.

The Middlesex rapes are alleged to have taken place in December 2022 and June 2023, Ryan and Baker said. Todd surrendered to police Thursday night and is expected in court for an arraignment sometime on Friday.
