Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – La’ricca Andrea Shahid, 32, was arrested last night after allegedly threatening co-workers with a hammer and scissors after she was fired from her job at Texas Roadhouse.

At about 8 p.m. on September 9, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to Texas Roadhouse (3984 SW 43rd Street), where the owner said he had just terminated Shahid because a manager caught her drinking on the job. He said she became extremely upset, yelling that she had nothing to live for and grabbing a hammer. Another manager took the hammer from her and told her she needed to leave, but once she was outside, she allegedly told the owner she would come back and hide in the bushes, where she was going to kill him. The owner said Shahid called someone and told them she was going to jail and would need to be bailed out.

A few minutes later, Shahid went back into the store and entered the to-go area, where she allegedly started yelling at the owner of the restaurant, grabbed a pair of scissors, and held them as if she was about to stab someone. The owner was afraid she would stab him and asked someone to call 911; Shahid left at that point.

The deputy reported that while he was investigating the incident, the owner said Shahid had called the restaurant and said she was “not going out like this” and was coming back to shoot up the restaurant.

The deputy found Shahid in a room at America’s Best Western (710 NW 75th Street).

Post Miranda, Shahid reportedly said she was upset that she was fired and said “things” out of anger but did not intend to hurt anyone. She reportedly admitted to going into the to-go area to grab scissors and hurt someone, but she said she decided it wasn’t worth it and threw the scissors on the ground.

Shahid has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She has juvenile convictions between 2004 and 2011 and four adult felony convictions (two violent); she has served two state prison sentences out of Hillsborough County, with her most recent release in November 2024. Judge Susan Miller-Jones ordered her held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold her without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
