Staff report

ARCHER, Fla. – A 20-year-old from Ft. White, Tyler Malik Bryant, found himself behind bars last night following an alleged high-speed chase on a four-wheeler that ended with a collision into a police vehicle.

On the evening of April 5, just before 9 p.m., deputies from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office were vigilantly overseeing a block party on the 17200 block of SW Archer Road. These gatherings have a reputation for erupting into violence, including incidents involving gunfire, brawls, and hazardous driving behaviors.

During the patrol, a deputy observed a four-wheeler emerge onto SW Archer Road, perform a donut, and then make a swift U-turn, heading back north onto SW 174th Street. The driver reportedly continued at a reckless pace, ignoring stop signs and endangering the neighborhood with his high-speed antics.

When the four-wheeler blew through a stop sign at the intersection of SW 174th Street and SW Archer Road, a deputy decided to pursue. Spotting the vehicle returning in his direction, he activated his patrol lights to initiate a traffic stop. The four-wheeler halted momentarily, and the deputy approached, identifying the driver as Bryant. Despite being cautioned not to flee, Bryant grinned at the deputy and sped off once more, prompting further pursuit.

Other deputies responded to look for the four-wheeler, and a second deputy saw the four-wheeler and tried to catch up to it, but the four-wheeler reportedly changed directions after spinning a donut in the roadway and crashed into the second deputy’s patrol vehicle, where he was taken into custody.

Bryant has been charged with fleeing from law enforcement with lights activated. He has no criminal convictions, but there is a pending sworn complaint from when he was a juvenile, charging him with possession of tobacco products by a minor. Judge Meshon Rawls ordered him released on his own recognizance.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
