GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Travis Denard Grigger, 44, was arrested early this morning on a felony warrant and was charged with burglary, property damage, and resisting an officer without violence.

At about 1:11 a.m. on September 29, Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Harbor Cove Apartments (6815 W. University Avenue), where a resident said Grigger had shown up unannounced and was told that he could not enter the apartment but entered anyway. He was again told to leave and allegedly went outside and broke the screen on the front window before opening the window in an attempt to enter the apartment again. When he saw that the occupants of the apartment saw him open the window, he reportedly fled.

Deputies initiated a K-9 track and eventually located Grigger at the Motel 6 on W. Newberry Road.

Grigger was charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling, property damage under $200, and resisting an officer without violence.

Grigger was also booked on a warrant for felony battery, sending a written threat to harm, and burglary with battery, filed after a July 2 incident in which he allegedly sent threatening text messages to his pregnant girlfriend and then went to her residence, hit her, entered her residence after she closed the door, and punched her in the mouth.

Grigger is required to have no contact with the victim in that case, but deputies believe he went to the Harbor Cove apartment because he believed she was there and intended to harm her.

Grigger has 22 felony convictions (seven violent) and 20 misdemeanor convictions (three violent) and has served eight state prison sentences, with his most recent release in February 2025. Judge Jonathan Ramsey ordered him held without bail on the two burglary charges, pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing. Judge Ramsey also set bail at $10,000 on the property damage charge and $50,000 on the battery and written threat charges.
