In a recent incident in Gainesville, Florida, Shaina Lynn Rentz, aged 39, found herself in legal trouble yet again. Already on probation from Marion County and deemed a fugitive by the Florida Department of Corrections due to missing two probation violation hearings, Rentz was apprehended on charges of shoplifting.

On the morning of March 27, Rentz visited a Target located on SW Archer Road. It was around 10:45 a.m. when she reportedly began her shoplifting spree by swapping her shoes for a pair of sandals from the store, discreetly placing her original shoes on the lower shelf of her shopping cart. For the next three hours, Rentz roamed the store, choosing items such as clothes, jewelry, and makeup. According to reports, she concealed the jewelry and makeup in personal bags she had brought along. Before leaving, she paid for just a single shirt costing $25 and bought a drink from Starbucks, all while bypassing payment for the rest of the items.

Her activities caught the attention of a Target Loss Prevention Officer who intercepted her as she exited the store. A Gainesville Police Department officer was called to escort Rentz to the store’s loss prevention office for further inquiry.

During questioning, Rentz reportedly confessed to taking goods totaling $135.78. She attributed her actions to the influence of Xanax, stating that the medication can induce kleptomaniac behavior. This incident adds another layer of complexity to Rentz’s ongoing legal battles and highlights issues related to substance abuse and its potential impact on criminal behavior.

Post Miranda, Rentz reportedly admitted to stealing merchandise valued at $135.78 but said she had taken Xanax, which “makes people steal.”

The officer reported that Rentz has a significant drug addiction and had been awake since the previous day.

A search incident to arrest reportedly produced foil with drug residue and several homemade “pipes” that were used to smoke methamphetamine.

Rentz has been charged with petit theft and possession of drug paraphernalia; she was also booked on a warrant out of Marion County for violating probation on two drug charges, and she was listed as a fugitive by the Department of Corrections after she missed two hearings in Marion County for violating probation. Her full criminal history is unavailable, but she has a non-extraditable warrant out of Georgia for failing to appear at a hearing there, and she has at least two felony convictions (non-violent) and three misdemeanor convictions (non-violent) in Florida. Judge Luis Bustamante set bail at $10,000 on the new charges.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
