Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) is the Department of Justice’s nationwide initiative for bringing together federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and other public safety partners to combat violent crime and improve community safety. U.S. Attorneys’ offices coordinate PSN in each of the 94 federal districts, tailoring the initiative to address local violent crime and public safety challenges. As a key component of Operation Take Back America, PSN supports the Department’s broader commitment to protecting communities nationwide. The initiative focuses on three core principles: a rapid federal response to violent crime and criminal offenders; strong, strategic partnerships across law enforcement agencies; and accountability and deterrence through prosecuting the most serious, readily provable offenses and using other strategies. These efforts complement and strengthen President Trump’s Homeland Security Task Forces, supporting a comprehensive federal response to the most pressing public safety issues facing communities.
