GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 24-year-old woman, Alteria Leandrea Watson, found herself in police custody after allegedly attacking her ex-boyfriend with pepper spray and inflicting significant damage on his vehicle, totaling over $5,000.
According to a report from the Gainesville Police Department, the incident occurred around 2:18 a.m. on May 6. The victim, who is Watson’s former partner, was sitting in his convertible with the top down at a McDonald’s located at 1206 W. University Avenue. Watson and a companion approached his car, with the companion allegedly using pepper spray on the victim.
The victim managed to drive to the Holiday Inn’s north side to secure the convertible’s top. However, Watson purportedly tailed him in her vehicle. Upon reaching him, she reportedly pepper-sprayed him once more and shattered a small rear passenger side window using a glass beer bottle. Officers later discovered the broken bottle at the scene.
In the ensuing chaos from the pepper spray, Watson allegedly moved to the driver’s side of the car, where she began punching the victim and shouting. She is also accused of breaking the driver’s side mirror with a kick and scratching the door. Before leaving, she reportedly dented the passenger side door with another forceful kick.
The victim said that Watson and her friend drove away, and he didn’t know where they had gone, but he said Watson later came to his apartment and screamed at him from her vehicle, threatening to beat him up again.
Watson was arrested at her apartment complex on May 16.
Watson has been charged with burglary with battery, burglary of an occupied vehicle, felony property damage, and domestic battery. She has no local criminal history, and Judge Gloria Walker set bail at $25,000.
