GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In a startling turn of events, Jesse Matthew Lyles, aged 41, was taken into custody yesterday following accusations of threatening a Taco Bell drive-thru worker with a firearm. The alleged incident occurred after the employee was unable to clarify the term “ramekin.”
The unusual and tense episode unfolded on August 25 at the Taco Bell located at 7410 W. Newberry Road. According to the victim’s statement, a white male in a red Toyota placed his order and requested a ramekin of cheese. When the employee admitted her unfamiliarity with the term, the customer apparently became irate. The victim recounted that the man, later identified as Lyles, circled back to the drive-thru window, produced a pistol, cocked it, and threatened her. She reportedly inquired whether he intended to shoot her, prompting him to drive away swiftly. The employee expressed that she was genuinely terrified, believing her life was in jeopardy.
The account of the incident was corroborated by another Taco Bell staff member who witnessed the alarming interaction.

Authorities located Lyles shortly thereafter at a nearby Panda Express on 710 NW 60th Avenue. When approached by the deputy, Lyles, after being read his Miranda rights, expressed an unwillingness to discuss the matter, though he implied awareness of the situation. A search revealed a loaded black pistol secured in a fanny pack he was wearing.
Lyles, who reportedly works as an Uber driver, faces serious charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Although he has no previous criminal record, Judge Meshon Rawls has ordered that he be held without bail pending a hearing. The State Attorney’s Office has filed a motion for his continued detention without bail until the trial, but should this request be denied, bail will be determined at the hearing.
