Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Deangilo Santrell Williams, 31, was arrested late last night after allegedly attempting to get into an apartment at Arbor Park Apartments while armed with a gun.

At about 9 p.m. last night, Williams allegedly knocked on the rear sliding glass door of the apartment and pulled on the door handle. The victim told a responding Gainesville Police Department officer that she was afraid he would come into her apartment; she said she had met Williams three or four times but only knew him through a mutual friend who previously sublet a room in the apartment. The victim said she told Williams to leave, but he continued trying to enter her apartment for about 30 minutes. She said he eventually left but returned half an hour later, carrying a large stuffed bear, a box of chocolates, and a bottle of wine. She said he again demanded that she let him in and repeatedly tried to open the sliding glass door. She said he was banging on the door and windows of the apartment and yelling for her to let him in, but she never opened the door.

The responding officer reportedly found Williams a few feet from the apartment, and Williams walked toward the officer. The officer reported that he tried to conduct a pat-down, but Williams yelled and pulled away, then reached into his hoodie pocket and stood in a sideways “bladed” stance.

Williams allegedly refused to remove his hand from his hoodie pocket and was eventually detained; a loaded handgun with an altered serial number was reportedly found in his hoodie pocket.

A search incident to arrest also reportedly produced 8.7 grams of MDPV.

Post Miranda, Williams reportedly said he was at the apartment to get his brother’s belongings. He reportedly admitted that the drugs were his, and he said he regularly smokes “molly” because of a brain injury. He reportedly said he never tried to enter the victim’s apartment.

He also reportedly said that the victim had opened the door before the officer arrived and that she had given him the gun, wrapped in a black glove, and a fanny pack; he said the gun had been tucked into his pants, but the officer reported that it was found in his hoodie pocket. The victim reportedly said she had never opened the door, so she could not have given him the gun or the fanny pack. Williams reportedly denied knowing anything about the gun except that it was his brother’s and that he was not aware that, as a convicted felon, he could not legally carry it.

Williams has been charged with armed burglary, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance, resisting an officer with violence, and possession of an altered firearm. He has juvenile convictions between 2006 and 2010, three adult felony convictions (none violent), and one misdemeanor conviction (non-violent). Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $235,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
