GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jacari Quashon Robinson, 31, was arrested last night after a stolen firearm was reportedly found in his possession after a traffic stop; he was also booked on a warrant for allegedly punching a Newberry man on his porch in September 2024.

At about 9:50 p.m. on August 29, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 2400 block of E. University Avenue after a vehicle failed to come to a complete stop while entering a roadway. Robinson was a passenger in the vehicle.

All occupants were asked to get out of the vehicle after the deputy noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle, and Robinson reportedly admitted to having a firearm on his person, a Springfield XD9 pistol that had been reported stolen in Fayetteville, North Carolina, in 2012. The gun had an extended magazine and was loaded with 17 rounds of ammunition.

A search incident to arrest reportedly produced about 4.19 grams of marijuana hidden in Robinson’s underwear.

Post Miranda, Robinson reportedly said he bought the gun from a co-worker in Atlanta about two years ago. The deputy reported that although Robinson said he had worked with that person for about four months, he could not provide any identifying information for that person, could not remember how much he had paid, and could only advise that he had paid on an app called Chime. Robinson reportedly claimed he could find proof of the financial transaction but later said he couldn’t retrieve it because his phone was “turned off.”

Robinson was also booked on a warrant from an incident reported on September 16, 2024. The victim said he had been on his Newberry porch on September 13, watching football and playing cards, when Robinson walked onto his property without being observed, entered the porch, and punched him. When the victim met with deputies on September 16, a deputy reported that swelling could still be seen on his face. A witness reportedly corroborated the victim’s story, and the victim said he had known Robinson for many years.

Robinson has been charged with burglary with battery, grand theft of a firearm, and possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana. He has one felony conviction (adjudication of guilt withheld) for possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana in a 2017 case, and he was arrested in 2022 for unlawfully carrying a concealed firearm, but the charge was later dropped.

Judge Kristine Van Vorst set bail at $26,000 on the new charges and ordered him held without bail on the burglary with battery charge, pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.
