GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Vishnu Veeramachaneni, 19, was arrested early this morning and charged with burglary of any occupied dwelling, petit theft, and possession of a forged identification card.

A Gainesville Police Department officer responded at about 4:30 a.m. to a call about an unknown man in a woman’s apartment. The victim said a man had entered her apartment while she was sleeping and she woke up just as the man left; she reportedly took a picture of the man walking away from her apartment, carrying one of her shoes.

The officer found Veeramachaneni in the building at about 5:05 a.m., wearing the same clothing as the man shown in the picture taken by the victim.

A search incident to arrest reportedly produced the victim’s credit card in Veeramachaneni’s pocket. He also reportedly had a fake Florida ID card with a false birthdate. The missing shoe was reportedly found in a stairwell.

The victim said the credit card had been on a counter, just inside the front door, and the matching shoe was still in her apartment.

Post Miranda, Veeramachaneni denied entering the woman’s apartment but confessed to knowingly possessing a fake ID card.

Veeramachaneni has no local criminal history; bail information is unavailable on weekends.
