GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A dramatic scene unfolded in Midtown at the McDonald’s last night, leading to the arrest of 32-year-old Lorenze Ford III. Ford allegedly leaped across the counter, threatening violence against an employee.
The Gainesville Police Department received a distress call around 9:37 p.m. on July 14. An employee at the McDonald’s located at 1206 W. University Avenue had reported Ford’s disruptive behavior and aggressive shouting inside the establishment.
Despite repeated requests to leave, Ford reportedly refused. Instead, he escalated the situation by jumping over the counter and issued threats to the employee. The employee managed to escort Ford back into the public area, but Ford showed no intention of departing. Notably, this was not his first disruptive episode at the store, prompting the employee to request an official trespass notice against him.
When officers located Ford across the street, he insisted he had been pushed multiple times. Although he declined to discuss the altercation, within earshot of the officers, he declared his intention to return to the restaurant to confront the employee physically.
Ford has been charged with burglary of an occupied structure and simple assault. He has two misdemeanor convictions (non-violent). He was most recently arrested in December 2025 at GRACE Marketplace for trespassing, resisting arrest without violence, and two counts of battery on law enforcement officers, and he served three months in the Alachua County Jail after the battery charges were dropped. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $70,000 on the new charges and ordered a mental health evaluation.
