Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Freddy Leverene Jones II, 34, was arrested early this morning on a warrant for breaking down the door of a man who previously let him stay at his residence, then pointing a gun at the man.

On March 31, a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to the victim’s residence, where the victim said he had known Jones for about six months and had let him stay at his residence for a couple of days in the past month. He said he had told Jones earlier that he didn’t want him to come by the apartment, but Jones came back and knocked on his door. When the victim told Jones to leave, Jones reportedly said he would knock the door down, then he allegedly kicked the door down and broke into the apartment. The officer reported that the door was broken and the door’s frame was ripped off; the damage was estimated at $1,500.

The victim said that once inside, Jones pointed a revolver at him and said he should have shot him. The victim called the police, and Jones allegedly tried to snatch the victim’s phone. When the victim reached a 911 operator, Jones allegedly fled.

A sworn complaint charging Jones with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, burglary of an occupied dwelling, property damage, and trespass after warning was filed on April 9. Formal charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, armed trespassing, and property damage were filed on July 18, and a warrant for Jones’ arrest was issued on July 24.

Jones has five felony convictions and one misdemeanor conviction; he served a 10-year prison sentence for armed home invasion robbery and was released in 2021. The warrant, signed by Judge Phillip Pena, set bail at $150,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
