Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jalen Omarion Marshall, 19, was arrested yesterday morning on two felony warrants after allegedly giving false identification information to deputies and resisting arrest.

Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies were conducting a foot patrol in homeless camps near Archer Road on Saturday morning in an effort to find a stolen e-bike; at about 7:22 a.m., a deputy approached a car parked in the Kohl’s parking lot and reported that he could see people moving inside the car and could smell marijuana coming from the car.

Deputies removed the occupants from the car and interviewed Marshall, who allegedly said he did not have any identification on him and said his name was Jaylen Williams. A dispatcher reported to the deputies that the car was registered to Jalen Marshall and that he had two felony warrants. As deputies detained Marshall, he allegedly pulled away; the deputy reported that he had to be taken to the ground before he could be placed in handcuffs.

A probable cause search of the car based on the smell of marijuana reportedly produced 5.3 grams of marijuana.

Marshall has been charged with providing a false identification to law enforcement and resisting an officer without violence.

A sworn complaint was filed against Marshall in May 2022 after the victim of a firearm theft reported that he had left his vehicle with a young black male valet at UF Health Shands. He said he had left his handgun in the center console of the vehicle because he could not bring it into the hospital, and when he picked up his vehicle, the firearm was gone.

Marshall was employed as a valet at Shands in April and May of 2022. On June 28, 2022, a relative of Marshall’s reportedly brought the gun to Gainesville Police Department headquarters; the serial number had been scratched off. The relative said Marshall had admitted stealing the gun from a vehicle while he was working as a valet. The reporting officer stated that Marshall admitted taking the firearm in a recorded telephone interview and confirmed the make of the victim’s vehicle. Formal charges were filed in July 2022, and a warrant for Marshall’s arrest was issued in August 2022 with a recommended bail of $25,000.

Another sworn complaint was filed on November 2, alleging that Marshall had snatched an iPhone from a victim in the 1300 block of SW 51st Boulevard. The victim reportedly chased the robber but was unable to follow him through a fence; the victim reportedly identified Marshall through his Facebook account. Formal charges were filed, and a warrant for Marshall’s arrest was issued in December with a recommended bail of $75,000.

Bail on the new charges was set at $50,000, for a total bail of $150,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
