GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Kyle Alexander Eakin Coady, 27, was arrested late last night after allegedly driving his vehicle into an occupied condominium, collapsing the patio and damaging the front wall, window, and door of the condominium.
At about 11:18 p.m. on August 16, Gainesville Police Department officers responded to Grantwood Condominiums (2508 SW 35th Place), where they found a vehicle that had crashed through the front door of the residence, knocking down the privacy wall in front of the front patio, along with the front door, the cinderblock main wall, and the front window.
The two residents of the condominium told an officer they had never met Coady and had no idea who he was; Coady’s listed address is in a different building of the same condominium complex.
The victims said that after the crash, Coady got out of his vehicle and lay down on the ground but then got up and entered their residence through the broken front window. The male victim told Coady to stop, but he said Coady ignored him and continued into the residence.
The male victim put himself between Coady and the female victim and eventually punched Coady to stop him from moving even farther into the residence; the male victim said Coady had ignored repeated verbal commands to stop and get out of their home.
When officers arrived, they reportedly found Coady outside the residence but still in the patio area; due to debris from the collapse of the patio, there was no clear path to exit the patio. As officers gave commands for Coady to stop moving and show his hands, Coady allegedly ignored the commands and climbed over the rubble and his vehicle to exit the patio. Coady allegedly refused to lie down on the ground and started to run; several officers were reportedly needed to detain him.
Post Miranda, Coady reportedly said he had taken four or five edible mushroom gummies and did not recall much from the incident except that he heard people yelling at him to get out, and he remembered climbing out of a broken window.
DUI charges are pending the results of a blood sample.
Coady has been charged with two counts of burglary to an occupied residence and resisting an officer without violence. He has no local criminal history. He is currently being held without bond until he can attend a First Appearance hearing after he is released from the hospital.
