GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In the early hours of today, authorities took Jamiah Starlett Jamie McClellan, 34, into custody after she allegedly made threats involving both a woman and a dog.
Around 2:20 a.m. on January 10, an officer from the Gainesville Police Department arrived at an apartment in the Grove at Sweetwater Preserve. It was reported that McClellan had a dispute with the victim, during which she allegedly seized the victim’s hair before grabbing a “butcher’s knife” and threatening to harm the victim’s dog.
According to reports, the victim attempted to exit the apartment, but McClellan purportedly tried to attack her with the knife.
The officer observed minor red marks on the victim’s arms. Despite this, he found only typical kitchen knives at the scene, none of which appeared to be misplaced. Additionally, the officer noted dog food scattered across the apartment.
Post Miranda, McClellan reportedly said she had argued with the victim and had grabbed her shirt, but that was all. She reportedly admitted to grabbing the victim’s hair, but she said she never had a knife and did not threaten to kill the victim’s dog.
McClellan has been charged with domestic battery and domestic aggravated assault. She has no local criminal convictions; she has two previous arrests for domestic battery, but the charges in both cases were dropped. Judge Donna Keim set bail at $20,000.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
