GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In a troubling turn of events, Darryl Dwayne Latson Jr., aged 26, found himself under arrest this Tuesday, accused of selling a handgun to a minor. The transaction, which took place last December, has now brought serious legal consequences for Latson.
According to a report from the Gainesville Police Department, Latson orchestrated a meeting at 9:30 p.m. on December 22 with a juvenile and his friend. During this encounter, it is alleged that Latson sold them a Glock 30, a .45 caliber pistol, for $600. The purchase also reportedly included a small quantity of marijuana. The firearm came equipped with a black Glock case and a drum magazine capable of holding 30 rounds, adding to the gravity of the situation.
The officer involved in the investigation revealed that the juvenile had previously engaged in several marijuana transactions with Latson, claiming to have bought the drug from him “six to seven times.” Furthermore, the juvenile’s friend had a history of purchasing firearms from Latson. It was noted that Latson was fully aware of the juvenile’s age, which was confirmed during an October 2025 traffic stop when the two were found together in a vehicle.
Latson, identified in court documents as a home health aide, now faces charges related to transferring a firearm to a minor. Despite having no prior criminal record, he is confronted with serious allegations. Judge Meshon Rawls has ordered Latson’s release on his own recognizance, with strict conditions that he neither possess firearms nor contact the juvenile involved.
