Staff Report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 51-year-old man, Stacey Ramone Scott, found himself back in police custody yesterday following an arrest on charges of indecent exposure. This marks Scott’s third arrest for the same offense within a few months, all occurring in the Midtown area. The previous incident took place two weeks ago, resulting in his release on a $5,000 bail, while a similar charge in July was dismissed.

According to a statement from the Gainesville Police Department, a woman reported encountering Scott at around 8 p.m. on November 7. She was en route to visit a friend at Ansley Terrace Apartments, located at 130 NW 9th Terrace, when she noticed a man walking south along NW 9th Terrace. She claimed the man made direct eye contact with her as she parked her car, then approached her with his genitals exposed. Fearing for her safety, she quickly got back into her car and left the area to contact the authorities.

As she was on the phone with the police, the woman drove past the apartments once more, only to see the same man still exposing himself. Upon spotting her vehicle, Scott reportedly began running toward her car.

The following day, around 2:27 p.m., the woman’s friend alerted police again, reporting that the man was now at the intersection of NW 4th Avenue and NW 10th Street. By 3:00 p.m., the friend informed an officer that Scott was seen in the parking lot of Ansley Terrace Apartments.

The officer reportedly found Scott in the parking lot of the apartment complex, and the victim’s friend identified him as the man who had exposed himself the previous evening.

Post Miranda, Scott reportedly said he was “cutting through” the apartment complex to go to a friend’s house, but the officer noted that there is a six-foot fence around the perimeter of the complex except for the driveway, making it unlikely that Scott thought it was shorter to climb over the fence than to go around.

Scott reportedly told a different officer that he was visiting a friend, but he could not say where the friend lived.

When he was at the jail, Scott reportedly said he was at the apartment complex on Friday night with a friend who had ordered a Lyft, and he ran toward the victim’s car because he thought it was the Lyft, but it drove away.

Scott has been charged with indecent exposure, second or subsequent offense, and loitering/prowling.

Scott was arrested on October 26 for exposing himself in the 400 block of NW 10th Street and was released on October 31 after posting $5,000 bail. He was arrested for the same behavior in July at Ansley Terrace Apartments, but according to the State Attorney’s office, the victim did not actually see him exposing himself, so prosecutors would not have been able to establish all the elements of the crime, and the charge was dropped.

Scott has 12 felony convictions (two violent) and 32 misdemeanor convictions (five violent), including a 2017 conviction for indecent exposure; he has served two state prison sentences and was last released in July 2024 after serving a four-year sentence for five felonies spread across three cases. Judge Denise Ferrero set bail at $265,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
