Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ivey Latreace Hamilton, 40, was arrested early yesterday morning after allegedly breaking the window of an occupied apartment and entering through the broken window.

At about 4:40 a.m. on August 2, a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to an apartment in Point 12 Apartments (409 NE 11th Street), where the occupant of the apartment said Hamilton broke the front window of the apartment and crawled through the broken window; the occupant said he opened the door of the apartment and forced Hamilton out of the apartment. He said he had previously seen Hamilton in the area but did not know her and had never invited her into his apartment.

The officer reported that Hamilton cut her leg while crawling through the broken window, and her hands were also bleeding. Small amounts of blood were reportedly found outside the apartment, on the broken glass, and on the floor of the apartment.

The victim positively identified Hamilton as the person who had broken into his apartment.

Hamilton has been charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling. She has 14 felony convictions (two violent) and 10 misdemeanor convictions (two violent); she has served three state prison sentences and was most recently released in 2023. After being released from prison in October 2023, she violated probation within a few weeks by never moving into the address she had provided to her probation officer and not showing up for appointments. She was located and arrested in June 2024, and after multiple mental health evaluations (all confidential), Judge David Kreider issued two orders on January 16, 2025: the first one stated that “probation should not be revoked as the interests of society may best be served otherwise,” and the second stated that the court, “on its own motion,” was terminating her probation, releasing her, and closing the case.

Judge Tatum Davis set bail at $75,000 on the new charge.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
