GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A woman named Larina Yvette Jones, aged 39, was taken into custody yesterday following accusations of stabbing a man during a dispute concerning a rent payment.
On May 14, around 1:09 p.m., officers from the Gainesville Police Department were dispatched to a residence on the 1900 block of NW 32nd Place. According to the victim, the confrontation began with Jones over overdue rent. When Jones refused to vacate the premises, the victim stepped outside. Upon re-entering to retrieve an item, he claimed Jones attacked him with a knife, inflicting wounds to his head and shoulder.
Police reportedly located a knife that matched the victim’s description and observed blood stains on a nearby wall. A witness mentioned that Jones had harbored animosity toward the victim for some time, leading to frequent intense disputes.
After being read her Miranda rights, Jones allegedly acknowledged the heated argument over rent but insisted she did not possess any weapons during the altercation.
Jones has been charged with aggravated battery causing bodily harm. She has four felony convictions (non-violent), seven misdemeanor convictions (non-violent), and one criminal traffic conviction; she has served one state prison sentence and was released in 2024. She was arrested in July 2025 for drug possession and was also booked on a warrant for stabbing a different victim; she is released after posting bail in the drug case, but the stabbing case was dropped.
Judge Susan Miller-Jones ordered her held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold her without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.
