Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Dominique Lashawn Diggs, 39, was arrested early this morning and charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and one count of property damage after allegedly cutting two people and vandalizing a car with a knife.

At about 8:30 p.m. last night, a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to The Ridge on 34th at 508 SW 34th Street, where a man Diggs had been dating told an officer that he had gone to Diggs’ apartment to gather his belongings, and the two of them began arguing. He said Diggs picked up a large knife and said, “You know I’ll kill you,” then started swinging the knife at him. The officer reported that the victim was cut in two places on his hand. The victim told the officer that Diggs tried to block him from leaving the apartment, and when she moved out of the way, she pulled on his shirt and ripped it as he left.

He said Diggs followed him outside and started swinging the knife at him and his girlfriend, then chased his girlfriend with the knife. Diggs allegedly cut the other woman on her arm and then went back into her apartment.

While the two victims were sitting in their car and calling 911, Diggs allegedly came back outside and stabbed the hood of a third person’s vehicle with the knife, then went back inside her apartment. The damage to the car is estimated at $500.

Diggs has juvenile convictions between 1998 and 2000, one adult felony conviction (non-violent), and one adult misdemeanor conviction (violent). The State Attorney’s Office asked for pre-trial detention without bond, and Judge Susan Miller-Jones ordered Diggs held without bond until a judge rules on the motion.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
