Recently unveiled surveillance footage from a gas station in Los Angeles has captured the dramatic moment when Nick Reiner was taken into custody, suspected of murdering his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.

The video, recorded at an ARCO gas station in the Exposition Park area on December 14, shows Nick walking along the opposite side of a bustling intersection.

Suddenly, three police vehicles pull up in front of him, lights flashing, prompting Nick to raise his hands in surrender.

Officers then exit their vehicles and proceed to arrest the 31-year-old.

Additional footage from inside the gas station earlier that evening reveals Nick entering the store dressed in a windbreaker, jeans, a baseball cap, and carrying a red backpack.

He can be seen purchasing a bottle of water and leaving shortly after.

Nick was arrested just hours after news broke that Rob and Michele had been killed in an apparent stabbing police were investigating as a homicide.

Their deaths were later officially ruled a homicide by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, with “multiple sharp force injuries” listed as their cause of death.

On Dec. 16, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced that his office would be charging Nick with two counts of first-degree murder, with a special circumstance of multiple murders.

Nick made a brief court appearance the following day. He did not enter a plea, as his attorney Alan Jackson––who has worked with Harvey Weinstein and Karen Read among others––was granted a continuance, and the arraignment was postponed until Jan. 7.

While speaking with reporters outside the courthouse, Jackson called Rob and Michele’s deaths a “devastating tragedy” and asked that the public not “rush to judgment,” but rather “allow the [justice] system to move forward in the way that it was designed.”

“There are very, very complex and serious issues that are associated with this case,” he said. “They just need to be thoroughly, but very carefully dealt with and examined and looked at and analyzed.”

On the same day as Nick’s court appearance, his sister Romy Reiner and brother Jake Reiner spoke out about their parents’ deaths.

“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” they shared in a joint statement to MS NOW on Dec. 17. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

The siblings went on to share gratitude for the condolences and support they’ve received from loved ones and the public.

“We now ask for respect and privacy,” they added, “for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”
