A search warrant indicated that the deaths of Gene Hackman and his wife, who were found dead at their New Mexico home on Wednesday, are suspicious.

Hackman, 95, and pianist Betsy Arakawa, 63, were discovered dead in their Santa Fe home alongside their dog. Though the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office said foul play is not suspected in their deaths, detective Roy Arndt said there were “no obvious signs of a gas leak,” according to Variety.

Arndt claimed that Arakawa was found on the bathroom floor, in the same room where pills were scattered on the countertop. Variety reported that Hackman was in the mud room with sunglasses at his side.

According to the outlet, the couple’s dog was reportedly found deceased in a bathroom closet. The front door was open, though there was no indication of forced entry.

Investigators said it appears Hackman and Arakawa had been dead for some time. They also suggested the pair fell suddenly, as evidenced by a space heater next to Arakawa’s head and the sunglasses next to Hackman’s body, according to the Santa Fe New Mexican.

Two men performing maintenance work at the home discovered the bodies. They said they last made contact with the couple two weeks earlier.
