Police in a metro Atlanta county are searching for a man believed to have stabbed an off-duty police officer after an accident and then fleeing the scene.

Rockdale County deputies say that at about 6 p.m. on Saturday, a Dodge Charger hit a Chevy Silverado on Interstate 20 east of Atlanta then left the scene.

The driver of the truck, an off-duty police officer from the metro area, followed the Dodge from DeKalb County into Rockdale County as he tried to get the vehicles license plate information. The Dodge driver pulled into a parking lot, and the two drivers argued.

The Dodge driver allegedly hit the victim and then stabbed him multiple times before again fleeing the scene.

The off-duty officer was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment; deputies have not comment on the extent of his injuries.

Rockdale deputies identified the suspect as Justin Perry Hurst and said he has ties to the Alpharetta area, north of Atlanta. He’s also known to drive a white 2019 Volkswagen Passat with Georgia tag #CWC3082.
