Rex Heuermann, who stands accused as the Gilgo Beach serial killer, reportedly had extensive interactions with at least 60 sex workers before his arrest in 2023. This startling revelation comes from a motion put forth by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday.

The 63-year-old Heuermann allegedly used the dating app Tinder to connect with these individuals, creating false identities under the pseudonyms “Andrew Roberts” and “Thomas Hawk.” This tactic allowed him to mask his true identity while engaging with potential victims.

Further investigations into Heuermann’s online activities revealed a disturbing search history. Among the findings were images depicting brutalized and impaled women, along with searches for “hardcore violent pornography,” as reported by CBS News. Such content paints a grim picture of his supposed interests.

In addition to these unsettling discoveries, Heuermann’s search history included phrases like “mourning the deceased,” as noted by Long Island’s News 12. This, coupled with the nature of his online behavior, has led the prosecution to label Heuermann as a sexual sadist, a term that underscores the disturbing nature of his alleged actions.

The prosecution stated that the evidence confirmed that Heuermann is a sexual sadist.

“These show an absence of mistake, that he was using and making these calls, and learning about how to torture people in order to perform these acts upon his victims. So the prosecution’s argument is that these are relevant acts,” former prosecutor Vinoo Varghese told CBS News.

“It is also very likely that the prosecution feels that they have an extremely very strong case and are not offering anything short of life in prison.”

In July 2023, police arrested Heuermann in Manhattan for the 2009 and 2010 murders of Melissa Barthelemy, 24; Megan Waterman, 22; and Amber Lynn Costello, 27, as CrimeOnline previously reported.

In January 2024, he was charged with Maureen Brainard-Barnes’ murder.

Officials said Brainard-Barnes and the three other victims were found wrapped in burlap and buried near each other at New York’s Gilgo Beach. All four women were reportedly advertising as sex workers when they vanished.

In June 2024, Heuermann was charged with the murders of Sandra Costilla and Jessica Taylor. In December 2024, he was indicted for the murder of Valerie Mack.

Heuermann’s trial is scheduled to begin after Labor Day.
