A woman from Rhode Island, notorious for accumulating over 100 arrests, mostly for traffic-related offenses, allegedly fatally injured a Grammy-nominated musician during a morning walk with his dogs.
On December 6, Hopkinton police responded to an incident where they found a dark SUV that had collided with a telephone pole on Spring Street, located in Hope Valley. The scene suggested further chaos before the crash.
Authorities suspect that the driver struck multiple objects along the way and, tragically, also hit a pedestrian who was out walking his dogs.
As reported by CBS News, the pedestrian was identified as 70-year-old Roderick Macleod, a musician recognized with a Grammy nomination. He was walking on the shoulder of the eastbound lane when the vehicle hit him.
Emergency services transported Macleod to Rhode Island Hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.
Macleod was known in the 80s for being nominated for a Grammy for his work with the band Roomful of Blues and for being inducted in 2014 into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame, according to The Westerly Sun.
Police stated that Shannon N. Godbout, 41, “was traveling eastbound on Spring Street when she left her lane and struck several objects, including two telephone poles and the pedestrian walking his dogs.”
Godbout was found at the scene. Police also found “numerous illegal narcotics and packaging materials commonly associated with drug distribution” in Godbout’s possession. Godbout was taken for evaluation to Westerly Hospital.
Chief Carrier of the Hopkinton Police Department said that Godbout’s “criminal history includes over 100 arrests,” and he said that she “has received 40 traffic citations.”
Godard has been placed under arrest and is facing charges of driving to endanger, resulting in death and possession of narcotics, Schedule I/II, with intent to distribute, 3rd plus offense.
