A sentencing date was scheduled for the girlfriend of a sex offender who killed a 17-year-old girl in South Carolina in 2009.

Last November, Raymond Moody told authorities at Lieber Correctional Institution in Ridgeville that Angel Vause, 56, helped him “hunt” for a girl the night he killed and raped Brittanee Drexel, who was visiting Myrtle Beach at the time. Moody — a sex offender — said he and Vause lured Drexel into a car by claiming they were also tourists and offered to drive her back to her hotel, according to WHAM.

Moody said he pretended to be lost while restraining Drexel in the back seat of his car as Vause drove. They reportedly brought Drexel to a tent at the Pole Yard Boat Landing in Georgetown, where Vause instructed Moody not to rape Drexel until she returned from getting the keys to their apartment.

According to WHAM, Moody said Vause had time to free Drexel while he retrieved sex toys from a briefcase in their apartment. Moody also claimed Vause planned for them to rape Drexel together.

Moody said Vause witnessed him rape Drexel in the tent, though he could not recall whether Vause participated. He also said that Vause did not know he planned to kill the teen.

Moody said Vause was also present when he strangled Drexel with a nylon rope. He also stabbed her in the heart with an ice pick.

Moody stated that he buried Drexel alone because he worried that Vause, who expressed fear, would tell about the murder. Moody confessed to the crime in May 2022 and led the FBI to her body in a wooded area in Georgetown.

Moody, who is serving a life sentence, agreed to tell authorities about Vause’s role in Drexel’s rape and murder. In exchange, Drexel’s family agreed to allow a portion of Moody’s property to remain in a trust for Vause’s grandchildren, according to WHAM.

Vause pleaded guilty to making a false statement to a federal agent. WMBF reported that her sentencing hearing is scheduled for February 13.
