Gypsy Rose Blanchard has been approved for parole and is expected to be released from prison later this year, nearly three years before her prison sentence was slated to end.

The 32-year-old will be paroled on December 28, the Missouri Department of Corrections said, according to local news outlet OzarksFirst.com.

Blanchard pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in connection to the slaying of her mother Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard in 2016 and was subsequently sentenced to 10 years in prison. She has been serving her sentence at the Chillicothe Correctional Center.

Prosecutors agreed to a lesser sentence for Gypsy Rose after it was determined that she was likely the victim of Munchhausen syndrome by proxy — also known as Factitious Disorder Imposed on Another, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Dee Dee had for years portrayed her daughter as seriously ill, subjecting her to numerous medical procedures and treatments. In reality, Gypsy Rose was perfectly healthy.

“She used me as a pawn. I was in the dark about it. The only thing I knew was that I could walk, and that I could eat. As for everything else… Well, she’d shave my hair off. And she’d say, ‘It’s gonna fall out anyway, so let’s keep it nice and neat!’” Blanchard told Buzzfeed News in 2016.

Gypsy Rose testified during former boyfriend Nick Godejohn’s trial that she had grown tired of the unnecessary medical treatments and hospitalizations and was convinced that the only way she’d escape her mother’s grip was to murder her. The then-23-year-old assisted in the murder by providing Godejohn, whom she met online, with the knife and giving him information about Dee Dee’s routines. Authorities later uncovered the crime studying the pair’s social media messages.

Godejohn was convicted of first-degree murder and is currently serving a life sentence.

Since entering prison, Gypsy Rose has adjusted to life without her mother.

“This time is good for me,” she explained to Buzzfeed. “I’ve been raised to do what my mother taught me to do. And those things aren’t very good. She taught me to lie, and I don’t wanna lie. I want to be a good, honest person.”

She even got engaged, once to a man who reached out to express sympathy after watching the news coverage surrounding the case. He later visited her in prison. “That was the beginning of this friendship, which turned into something more than a friendship,” family friend Fancy Macelli told E! Online in 2019.

The pair planned on getting married after Blanchard was released from prison, but the relationship seemingly deteriorated while she was behind bars. A source told E! Online in 2020 that Blanchard called off their wedding and was “focused on better herself.”

“She currently has no plans to enter into another relationship until after she is released from prison,” the source added.

Blanchard seemingly changed her mind, as it was revealed in July 2022 that she had married Louisiana man Ryan Scott Anderson, according to Entertainment Tonight.
