An Alabama man is behind bars after allegedly stealing an ambulance from a crime scene, leading police on a high-speed chase Saturday.

ABC 7 reported that on Saturday morning, just before 10 a.m., two men got into an argument in front of the Downey City Library that resulted in one man being fatally stabbed.

“The gentlemen were arguing right outside here. One guy pulled out a knife — the guy that had the flannel — and started just stabbing the other gentleman. The gentleman fell down, and once the gentleman fell down, he went for one more strike to the neck, and that’s where the blood… you know, that happened,” said witness Abraham Mancilla.

As first responders were trying to save the stabbing victim, a man uninvolved in the stabbing took off in their ambulance.

KTLA reported that video from the Embassy Suites, located across from the library, showed officers chasing the ambulance as the man sped away.

A lady can be heard yelling, “He’s stealing the ambulance!”

During law enforcement’s 10-mile chase of the ambulance, it crashed into several parked vehicles in a residential area, stopping after hitting a truck. No injuries were reported, according to ABC7.

Video from the Citizen app showed that while the alleged ambulance thief was being arrested, his pants fell to his ankles, leaving him exposed from the waist down, according to KTLA.

The stabbing suspect left the scene on foot. A 27-year-old homeless man was later apprehended and taken into custody at Downey High School, which is on the back side of the library, according to ABC7.
